About us

Cemoplaf started in 1974 as an institution dedicated to offering health services with emphasis on sexual and reproductive health to middle and low income individuals.

This initiative had the support of the Ecuadorian Medical Society, who wanted to bring family planning to our urban and rural communities, which at time wasn’t a very popular endeavor, especially if it was for the benefit of women.

It has been 44 years full of all kinds of stories,  some funny, some exemplary and some heartbreaking. Stories that our staff has felt as their own and have lived them day by day with those who believe in the Institution.

Pioneers and Visionaries

 

CEMOPLAF is a pioneer in developing several projects and programs for training and research, in many health issues with a very positive outcome at the institutional, national and international level, making CEMOPLAF the recipient of many awards:

  • 1995: With the collaboration of Georgetown University and the Ministry of Education and Culture of Ecuador, The Manual of “Self-care of Fertility and Sexuality for Teens” is created.
  • 1997: Through the leadership of young volunteers initiates the Adolescent Program aim to inform, educate and serve young people who are under 19 years of age.
  • 2002: A workshop to promote an exchange of experience and practical training with young people and staff of Planned Parenthood Western Washington (PPWW”)  which helped learn strategies used to inform adolescents, parents and teachers.
  • 2005: In 2005: the manual “Adolescents for a full and responsible health”  was created with the help of  the Ministries of Education, Health and the Municipality of Quito.
  • 2006: In 2006: A Research is carried out on former users of the Teen Programs, “The use of condoms among teens and young people in Ecuador and Nicaragua is promoted: strategies for long-term success”.

It would be a hard task to list all of the activities and research promoted by CEMOPLAF  but all of them have been to fight for the rights of women.

We are an institution with extensive experience that provides comprehensive services in sexual and reproductive health, training and research, focusing on human rights, applying quality standards, to meet the needs of the population and contributing to the development of the country.
